Hello,

My problem deals with this area of interest, so I will post here. The problem I have is concerning VM, so far I have followed the listed steps from above. In my quest I have configured j2re1.4.2_05, which is in /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05. I also see java_vm in the bin directory. I also created a soft link using, (ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_04/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so)Mozilla1.2

My ~/.bash_profile is as follows
Code:
# .bash_profile

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
        . ~/.bashrc
fi

# User specific environment and startup programs

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
BASH_ENV=$HOME/.bashrc
USERNAME="root"

export USERNAME BASH_ENV PATH

#Specified java script

PATH=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05/bin:$PATH
JAVA_HOME=/usr/java

export JAVA_HOME PATH
No error was recieved from source of the bash_profile.

The question I have is why do I still recieve the same error when trying to install?

When I tested my installation of javaVM it checks out perfectly on the java site.
Quote:
[root@impervious kronux]# sh ./LimeWireLinux.bin

Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...
No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH
environment variable. You must install a VM prior to
running this program.
[root@impervious kronux]#
Hopefully this is enough information to help me solve this problem.
Thanks in Advance!!

You are installing limewire as root. Is java in roots path as well as the users path ?

I found that I had to install limewire as a user, perhaps you could try that?

Well I echo $PATH and found out that I was not recognizing the right PATH that I wanted.
So I did the following:

In /etc/profile, under pathmunge /usr/X11R6/bin after
Code:

JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05
pathmunge $JAVA_HOME/bin after
export JAVA_HOME
Then I when into~/.bash_profile and did the following:
Code:
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05
export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
Still wasn't seeing the right path, so I close my term. Still no go, so I just rebooted and logged in as root. When back the first thing I checked was "echo $PATH" and low and behold it listed the following
Quote:
[root@impervious kronux]# echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05/bin:/home/kronux/bin:/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_05/bin
[root@impervious kronux]#

If you have installed the JRE correctly and yet you still get the error when trying to install (for example LimeWire) you need to install it as a user, it was said before, and I will say it again, just to let y'all know.
