Question Error with pacman after installing Arch Linux in Virtualbox. Any ideas?

Well, I decided to try one of the more simpler and lightweight distributions of Linux via Virtualbox, and right now I'm running into an issue after I was trying to install X.

When I ran 'pacman -Syu' I received the following error message saying that it wasn't able to retrieve core.db. extra.db, and community.db and that it failed to update core, extra, and community.

I'm not exactly a noob at the Linux game, but I'm not much of an expert. Could it be that I didn't bring up the proper interface for the network? Is it a pacman issue? Should I have done a netinstall instead of a core install?

Can anyone help me?

Have you gone through the usual network steps? ie do you have an ip address assigned? can you ping something from the net like google?

No, I haven't. I thought that on Virtualbox, the OS on VBox runs off of what the host is running on.

EDIT: This is what ping google.com returns:

Code:
ping: unknown host google.com

And what about ifconfig, ie does it return an ip address for you? What settings do you have in the network settings for VB? ie. NAT, Bridged ...
