error while loading shared libraries

Alright, just loaded a fresh copy of OpenSuSE 11.3 x64, went to update manager and let it update, came back and computer was shut down. After booting it back up, I cannot update any software, nor run any commands.

Here is my output:

Code:
error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've tried searching for this error, some people came back saying to run this:

Code:
rpm --rebuilddb
But all that happens is this:

Code:
rpm: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
ldd, nor ls work either so I'm stuck and thinking about a reinstall. I don't understand how this system could be so messed up after a failed update.. Used to trust SuSE, not sure anymore after this incident..

create softlink of library file

Code:
ln -s /lib/libdl-2.7.so /lib/libdl.so.2
ln -s /lib/libpthread-2.7.so /lib/libpthread.so.0
change library version number as per your system.

hope this help

- Run ldconfig to update links
- find the shared libraries and make the symlink if needed

Some software needs 32-bit libraries

If ldconfig and symlinks don't solve problem, look for -32 versions of the packages that contain the missing libraries. If you don't find them, try downloading the 32-bit packages and installing them with -iv and the --force option rather than -Uv so both 32 and 64 bit library versions are available. CAUTION: If you get an unresolvable dependency error, STOP! Installing with --nodeps can break your system badly enough to require reinstallation.

Alright, I rebooted, tried several more things with no luck. Each command you guys suggested still resulted in some shared library not being found, so I did a reinstall and now everything works fine. I guess I just gotta make sure to have a UPS hooked up when I'm doing SuSE updates!

Thanks for your suggestions,
Brian
