The machine should have entered runlevel 5 (graphical subsystem) and the DISPLAY variable should be exported. If you're not running a X11/Xorg then you could perform a "silent mode" installation using a response file. In any case reading the documentation before you actually install Oracle may be beneficial as it may cover your "give me detailed instructions" question.

Firstly Thank you everyone for giving me your suggestions.

I tried installing oracle 11g in centos using Tim's tutorial and all went fine initially i got the oracle 11g installation GUI and after passing through some intial steps i got an error while starting database configuration.

The error was : TNS failed
and i got two options in that dialog box "ignore" and "abort"

after press ignore a few times.the installation finished successfully.

When i opened terminal and typed

sqlplus SYS as SYSDBA

it asked for password

when i gave the password again it showed the error TNS failed

kindly someone help me solve this.....

So you ignored errors, and you're surprised it's not working??

The best people to help you with Oracle problems is ORACLE, give them a call. You're paying for support, and they can give you exact information and details.
