Hi,

I attempted to install Kopete and in the instructions it said to type, "./configure" to configure the package for my system. I did and it did its thing and the very last line said this: "configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH"

What does this mean and how do I fix it? The instructions said to type "make" after to compile the package, I did this as well just to see what would happen and this was returned: "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."

I am using RedHat 9 and KDE. I used Konsole to type those commands in. Thanks for any help you can provide!

How hard can this be to install? I keep trying but seeing as how I'm really new to Linux I don't know what else to try. Please assist.

You do not have GCC installed. INstall it form the RPM on the Rh CDs

I figured that out and installed some and then when I typed "make install" I received this error:

"make[3]: *** [libkopete.la.closure] Error 1

make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/ryan/Desktop/kopete-0.6.2/kopete/libkopete'

make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ryan/Desktop/kopete-0.6.2/kopete'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1"

What should I do now?

Let me just note that I thought this was a seperate issue from the topic I posted in the Newbie forum. It seems as if they weren't different problems so I'll just post in that forum and let this one die. My apologies for the double post, however like I said at the time I posted this and then the other one I thought they were two different problems.
