error while installing glibc 2.3.5


Hi ,
I was trying to install glibc-2.3.5 on fc3 from its source !!
configure , make worked fine
but when i did a make install
it gave me following error :"collect 2 : cannot find 'ld'

and the process stopped !!!

Please help

[user@fc3computer ~]$ rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.3.5-0.fc3.1
[user@fc3computer ~]$
glibc-2.3.5 is included with Fedora Core 3. Is there some special reason to install it from source?
