error loading shared libraries

Hi there

Running linux RH 7.2 and trying to install a network anylizer called dsniff. I downloaded the files needed to run the app e.g libnids, libnet,db,openssl, libcap. Unzip all files and ran ./configure, then make and make install. All of them installed without error.

When I tried to run dsniff it gave me an error saying "error while loading shared libraries: libnids.so.1.0 : cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

I thought at first I installed it incorrectly therefor downloaded the rpm version and still did the same thing.

Thanking everyone for there input

Tony

Go look up libnids on the internet somewhere. Sourceforge, or Freshmeat always seem to have what I want.

Just download the library, make sure it's in the ld.so.conf path, and run the program.

ld.so.conf is in /etc. run ldconfig after you edit it.

Talking Here

Maybe you had the wrong library?

http://www.packetfactory.net/Projects/Libnids/

is where you find libnids.

Just untar that tarball, mv the libraries to /lib, and you're set. If you don't want to mv them to /lib, then put them in any folder you want, put that folder in ld.so.conf, and ldconfig.

sorry if that's just like my first reply, but i dont know what else to tell you.
