Error loading libaio.so.1 during MySql installation

Hi all,

I hope this is the right zone to post in.

I was trying to install MySql on my pc cause I would create a LAMP machine.

I want to install MySql from binaries, so I tried to follow the MySql.com instructions. I have to run the command:

scripts/mysql_install_db --user=mysql --basedir=/usr/local/src/mysql-5.5.14-linux2.6-i686 --datadir=/usr/local/src/mysql-5.5.14-linux2.6-i686/data

but it doesn't work.
mysql_install_db answered me:
/usr/local/src/mysql-5.5.14-linux2.6-i686/bin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I tried to install libaio by my package manager Pacman but nothing changed.

Have anyone ever had the same same problem? How did you solved it?

Any help will be appreciated,
thank you all,

Marco Galassi

What distribution are you using?

You refer to pacman, so I will assume that you are using ArchLinux.

Why don't you just install mysql with pacman?

It is in [extra] so your /etc/pacman.conf needs to include (just remove the # at the beginning of the lines)

Code:
[extra]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
right after [core]

Hi!

Yes, I use ArchLinux.
Well, actually I want to try to install MySql manually just because personal choice.
But if I can't solve this problem, I'll surely will install it by pacman.

I agree with @andrewthomas : Get mysql* via pacman.

... The "mysql-5.5.14-linux2.6-i686" etc. from MySQL, e.g.
http://download.softagency.net/mysql...ads/MySQL-5.5/
may not be compatible with any Linux OS ?
And if you need an extension, you will have to start from scratch anyway :
None or few are available for the "example mysql" binary packages ...
→ → I think those package are considered being examples only ..

The advices here at LQ are usually : ""Don't use those packages,
uninstall it, and use a package meant for your OS.""

..
