You either need qt or qt-devel. Generally errors like that are caused by not having the development files. If that don't work then go in the source directory and post the last several lines of config.log.

Make sure u install Qt v.3.2 as well as Qt-devel packages before going ahead with kopete..

rearding GAIM on my RH9 box it alos have some problem and is it cranium2003 was unable to signon : connection problem. i did all proxy setting that i ues in mozilla to acces internet.

qt-3.1.1-6 all packages and kde3.1 all packages are installed on my pc.

You need to upgrade your qt.

If you don't want to upgrade your Qt library, you need to make sure the version of kopete you're trying to install supports the version of KDE you have. AFAIK, the latest version of kopete that compiles on KDE 3.1.x is 0.8.2. Version 0.8.4 and up requires KDE 3.2.x.
