Talking Error 1 to install bzip2 1.0.5

Hello
I have a problem to install bzip2, when I put make install something like this appear:

mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/man/man1': Permission denied
make: *** [install] Error 1

This is the first time that I install something after I install Ubuntu 9.04.

Somebody can help me?

Thanks.

Yes. You don't have permission to write to that directory, just like the error message says. You need to be root to do an install like that, so either "su - root", or run it as "sudo make install" instead.

You should also be able to just type in "apt get bzip2", and get a pre-compiled version.

Welcome to LQ.

I think, bzip2 is installed by default, so what you could
be missing is 'libbz2-dev' ( to compile an application.)

Like said by TB0ne, please use 'apt-get' for install :
sudo apt-get install libbz2-dev

About 26,000 packages are available with 'apt-get' or
the "Package Manager" = Synaptic.

Package info libbz2-dev
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libbz2-dev
.....
