Great, I installed Battlefield 2 with Cedega and everything went fine... I rebooted after install just to be sure, something happened that never happened before..
Instead of loading kde it went into text mode and asked me to login... WHen I logged in the screen went black then the screen turned into the Nvidia Splash screen for about 3 seconds and then returned to command mode and said alot of stuff but i wrote down the important things:

Fatal server error could not open font 'fixed'

had tail -f /var/log/syslog going

localhost kdm: :0[3920] IO Error in XOpenDisplay
localhost kdm :0 [3382]Display ;0 cannot be opened
Localhot kde Unable to fire up local display 0 disabliing.


Anyone have any ideas??? I just installed update core for mandriva 2006 and that upgraded nvidia drivers to 8756 from i think 7676 Maybe this is the problem??? Any help would be appreicated.

I read up some and they say it may be full root disk? I had 17GB free, then I installed BF2 with Cedega so I know BF2 isnt 17gb but does cedega make the files larger if theres an error?

Open a console and do lsmod to see if the nvidia module is loaded. Installing the game may have done a rmmod on you and didn't reload it. If nvidia isn't loaded, just modprobe nvidia to reload it.

This doesnt work lsmod shows a buncha stuff What I see thats important:

agpgart 29032 2 intel_agp-nvidia

12c_core 17360 1 nvidia


... modprobe nvidia doesnt work etiher..


I think the intel_agp may have something to do with the problem as I have a Intel 845 Chipset with Integrated Graphics... and Also a Nvidia FX 256mb PCI card... I wanna use the NVidia and in drafconf i have nvidia driver selected... ANy other help?

I tried to reinstrall the 7676 Nvidia Driver but it says Cannot find kernel source or kernel source not installed.... Does anyone here have some help for MEEEEEEEE!@

What I want to know is how Installing Battlefield 2 in Cedega ruined my linux? Could it be the Nvidia Drivers? Why wont anyone help me!!!!!

You appear to be under the impression that I, and everyone else here, owes you something. This is not the case.

There are a lot of people here who would've loved to help you, but your impatience and attitude of entitlement will have discouraged many of them from helping you.

I'm not going to give you the help you want, in part because I don't use Cedega or play video games, but I am going to give you the help you need because I want you to succeed:

Your attitude stinks. Change it.

Learn to be patient. This is a worldwide forum. This means that when you're going to sleep, someone on the other side of the world (who may just have the answer) is just logging on. Do you really think that 5 gazillion "Answer me, dammit!" posts are going to make them want to help you?

Now, go get the kernel source packages from Mandriva's repository so you can compile the Nvidia driver, and stop being a jerk.

I finally got it to work myself, and thanks to people like Charred who rather post about peoples attitudes then answer their questions, I figured out myself how to do some self- trouble shooting and learned some things about the linux modules and kernel... I would like to thank you charred for helping me realise i need to figure things out on my own and only use this place as a last resort.
