Epiphany Installation Question

I installed the Gnome Web browser (Epiphany) via Synaptic in my Linux Mint XFCE 19.1 distro. It doesn't seem to show up in any of the GUI menus, though it can be run very easily from the terminal.

Is this how it's supposed to be, or is there a straightforward way of making the browser visible and usable in the GUI?

I would also have expected it to show up in the menu if I installed via the package manager.

The first thing I would do, because it's easy, is log out and log back in and see if that makes a difference.

I found an article about how to customize the XFCE menu: https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu

it probably only shows up in the GNOME menu, and not in the XFCE menu.
easy to rectify with a custom .desktop file, or at least that's what i'd try first:
Code:
cp /usr/share/applications/epiphany.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
(not sure it's called epiphany.desktop, you find that out)
edit the copied file and comment out or remove entries stating that this belongs to GNOME only.
possibly the menu will just pick it up, possibly a log out/in is required.

It seems that I was insufficiently observant, and that the browser was present in the 'Internet' menu all the time, under the title 'Web'.

But thanks for the replies all the same. That looks like an interesting article you linked to, frankbell, and it's something I'll try to get my head around as I become more familiar with Mint XFCE.

Ondoho's reference to the /usr/share/applications directory helped, as it was by digging around in there that I encountered the Web desktop configuration file and worked out what was going on. By the way, hovering over the 'Web' icon in Application Finder gives a filename: /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Epiphany.desktop, but I couldn't see any evidence of that last reference in the directory.

I do find that the business of programs not appearing in menus can be a bit of an issue at times though. I tried to install Google Chrome in AntiX with gdebi a while ago and it definitely didn't show up in any menu. I tried reinstalling it, but gdebi insisted it was already installed. I then looked in Synaptic and found that it was designated as installed there as well, but tried 'mark for reinstallation', and after that process was carried out, Google Chrome appeared at last in the menu. My grasp of Linux technicalities at the moment appears to be virtually nonexistent, but it seems I can sometimes blunder my way into solutions by trial and error....

I understand fully.

One of my peeves is desktops that list programs by "function" rather than by name. I think I understand why they do it: they are trying to make things easier for new Linux users who don't know the names of Linux programs. But it still irks me. I always turn that off if I can find a way.
