Re installation on Kodachi:
Kodachi is a very specific distribution, but as far as I understand, there is a possibility to install external/own packages. And as it is based on Ubuntu / Debian, Ubuntu / Debian packages may work.
If unsuccesful with Linphone, do not lose the hope; this application works like a charm for someone/sometimes and fails in another cases, for reasons that are difficult to debug.
Another recommendable applications are
1.
Jitsi Desktop -
https://desktop.jitsi.org/Main/Download.html
Java based, so a little bit resource-hungry, but if it goes fine with your Java version, works well. Relatively easy to troubleshoot, esp. re: audio & video devices.
You can use either deb package, Linux installer or jar file (available at
http://download.sip-communicator.org/jitsi/) to install it.
2.
Blink -
http://icanblink.com/download/
If it works “out of the box”, then it is rock solid (even more than Jitsi Dekstop). If not, troubleshooting is more demanding. In most cases it needs pulseaudio server running.
Debian / Ubuntu packages available.
3.
Twinkle -
http://twinkle.dolezel.info/
Very lightweight, easy to troubleshoot and again rock solid. But some features (i.e. call recording) are missing. Debian / Ubuntu packages available; but AFAIK they are compiled without ZRTP support, so as you need encryption, it would be necessary to compile it from the sources (and then eventually build a deb package).
