Encode .vob files into given space?

Hi, I'm looking for a commandline program (ideally) to encode multiple .vob files into a single divx avi.

I can do this with mencoder (mplayer) but I can't figure out how to determine the resulting file size, especially when multiple files are involved.

I've used quickrip, but this seem to only be able to do it from the dvd itself; .vob files on thier own are no good.
