Enabling mail, smtp functions on linux9

Hello folks, I have recently installed php5.1, mysql5.0.15 and apache 2.09 on my linux red hat 9 machine. Everything is working fine. I have written some php files using mail(). Is there any way I can check on my local linux server whether the mail.php file is working or not. I mean send some mail to local internal address e.g. localhost and see if it gets posted to the right address.

I dont know te configuraton for the same. Can somebody out there help me please?? Any help will be apprciated?? Thx.

Yes. I beleive there is. Just mail it to yourself (at your user email address). If it works, it'll go through.

I just went through that myself with my wife, editing our website to our annual summer party on the occasion of our wedding anniversarey.

I do the html edits and test them, she sends out the invites.

Yeah i also know it can be done. Infact we have 2 servers. On Sever 1 when I send it to the file shows its gone, mail sent. On the other server it does not go. What could be the reason?? I probably feel sendmail might not hve got configured. Is that so?? If yes, how can i test and configure it. Also on server mail.php that was working, I dont know how and where to go to check it. Can somebody shed some light into it??? Thx alot.
