Embedded videos won't play due to removal of Flash

While I have other browsers installed, I favor and rely on iceweasel v. 38.3.0. More than 1 month ago, I removed Flash from my system and now embedded videos won't run when they show up on pages in my iceweasel browser. But YouTube vids play even after very briefly showing me a message that I have to install a plug-in.

I figure that when I got rid of Flash, some software element went with it and now videos embedded in many web pages won't run.

I can always open some other browser and watch the video but I'd like to correct whatever it is that's missing for iceweasel.

What's missing, where do I get it and where do I put it in my system?

[My sole OS is MX-14.4, an only 32 bit OS.]

What you are missing is likely Flash. Google have started offering most YouTube video via HTML5 video rather than Flash by default now, it seems, so that is why most of the YouTube videos will just work. However, most other sites I've seen still use Flash.

But why this?

Thanks for your help.

But why, when I don't have Flash in my system, do those same embedded videos run in one of my other browsers and not run in iceweasel? Flash is a system-wide software. Right? Removal of Flash somehow affected iceweasel (but didn't seem to affect those other web browsers) so that those embedded videos don't run in iceweasel.

Which "other browsers" -- Google Chrome has Pepper Flash as part of the install and Chromium has pepperflash-nonfree which you have to install seperately.
Also, how did you install Flash in the first place, and remove it?
Another though which occurs is that Firefox, being "free", lacks some of the CODECs for HTML5 video so, perhaps, check YouTube's ZhTML5 pages to confirm

Have you installed the flashplayer-mozilla package? That certainly works well with Iceweasel.

I re-installed Flash. [My OS -- MX-14.4 -- has a utility just for updating or removing Flash.] I only removed Flash over 1 month ago because I read that many were tossing it out due to some troubles with it.

Thanks to all who were interested in helping me.
