EMails Compatibility... Openoffice docs.

Hello Everyone,
I am not sure I am writing in the right topic... This is a question about Mails compatibility between Linux and MS Windows. This seems to be a bit dumb but here is what I have experienced...
I wrote my Cv and letter with openoffice the other day.As I had to send it for an application, I saved it in a .doc format.
The reciever got my mail right but my attached document had such a name: "0001000d.dat"
If you choose word to open the .dat file, it opens correctly.
It happends 3 or 4 times with either outlook 2000 or 2003 or even outlook express. It does not happen when I export the doc as pdf file...
Does anyone knows where it come from??? How come, outlooks can change the name of files??
Because it is very annoying when your are looking for a job and the recipient does not even know how to open the file!!!

NB: I am using KMail from MDK 10.0 (not community).

Thanks!

There are bugs (some may call them features) in exchange systems that cause docs and rtfs to be converted into dats.
