Email troubles with Mozilla Suite and Firefox

I can receive mail through Mozilla and Firefox via the Webmail link to Netscape (AOL).

I can't send/reply/forward mail. This problem began 5 days ago (no updates; no changes in preferences).

When I click on Compose, the Composer screen comes up, with a dialogue box presenting this message:

"An error occured while loading the requested message.

If this problem continues, please see our technical support information at:

http://m02.mail.netscape.com/17673/n...ared/help.aspx

[TF_ExtendTextField is not defined]"

I've spent the last 4 hours going in circles at the above link, the Netscape and AOL websites, and haven't found anything relating to TF_ExtendTextField: what it means or how to fix it.

There was a time when it was possible to post a message with Netscape tech support, but such links no longer seem to exist at Netscape or AOL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can recommend what I've been doing, which is to set up your own mail transfer agent (such as exim), and then use that to send mail, while still receiving mail as you're used to.

If you do so (and pick exim), you probably want to add to /etc/email-adresses the line "luser: ruser@domain.ext" where luser is the local username, and ruser is the remote username (that is, your account name at domain.ext).

Also, your outgoing mail server settings should be {host=127.0.0.1} {port=25} {protocol=esmtp} {auth=no} (fill those into the fields that match the closest). Be sure to have the MTA only listen to localhost for incoming connections, unless you want to be popular amongst spammers.
