Email Server Solution
I recently started a new job and one of the things on my to do is to revamp the email server. The current server was setup rather haphazardly and it a mess. So I am trying to decide on what email server system to use. I have been looking into doing a Postfix with all the trimmings. The how to's I've read outline setting up postfix with mysql, spamassassin, courier, clamav, etc.
Is this the way to go? Requirements goes as follows: -About 150 mailboxes -Around 50 domains (most only have one or two mail addresses) -Most users now use POP but I would like to be able to offer IMAP -Occasional Webmail access -Web based administration would be nice -Server we have is an older dual xeon 3ghz with 1 gig ram. The motherboard only has IDE ports. Should I just get some IDE hard drives or should I get a SATA interface card? I appreciate any suggestions anyone can give! Thanks, David |
You have a good recipe there. That's what I would go with as well. I have postfix, dovecot, spamassassin, clamav, amavisd-new, and postgrey setup and it works beautifully. I don't have as many users as yours but my server runs and handles the mail and blocks/tags spam very well. Postfix is one of the most friendliest MTA's out there to setup. I've never looked to see if there was a way to administer postfix over the web.
For webmail access, squirrelmail is very popular and not too complicated to setup. I would probably go with SATA disks than IDE as read/write speeds would be faster and your company is only going to grow along with the number of mailboxes that you handle. -twantrd |
