Email notifier software?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any software that notifies when a new email arrives to a given email account? I'm currently using aMSN with a plugin for gmail and another for yahoo, so I can know when I get new email on gmail, yahoo and hotmail. The problem is that if the Windows Messenger protocol is discontinued (as it seems it will be starting from tomorrow), I will not be able to use aMSN anymore to connect to the network, so it will be useless.

Basically what I need is a program (or some desktop widget), that notifies me when I get new email on Hotmail (renamed to Outlook.com), Gmail and Yahoo and that shows a counter with the number of unread emails on each one. Something like this:

Quote:

Hotmail: 3 unread emails
Yahoo: 0 unread emails
Gmail: 2 unread emails
Does anyone know if there is a program like this?

Thank you!

If your mail accounts support IMAP (Gmail does, I don't know about Yahoo or MSN) you can use ImapQuickCheck, works fine for me. It shows you the number of total mails on a systray icon and when you hover the mouse over it you get more detail. Optional you can get popup messages and alarm-sounds, if needed.

Hello TobiSGD,

Sounds interesting (I see it's a QT app, and since I'm using KDE it would integrate perfectly with the desktop, I guess); the only thing is that Outlook.com and Yahoo use POP :( I'll keep looking and post back if I find any program that integrates both protocols. Else, maybe I could use one application for Gmail and another one for Yahoo and Outlook.com (in case I find some POP notifier).

Thanks for your help!

I had a short look and Yahoo seems to support IMAP: http://email.about.com/od/accessingy...p-Settings.htm

Hello,

According to this Yahoo doesn't allow IMAP connections, but only through mobile devices. That explains why I can't find any IMAP options on my Yahoo settings (only POP). I tried with ImapQuickCheck and got errors with Yahoo (Gmail does work fine). If I recall correctly, there's a way to have Conky show an email counter, so I think I will explore that option. If I find anything useful I will post back.

Thanks for your help, TobiSGD.

Regards.

if you use kde there's a lot of widgets to do that, in so many ways...

Hi,

This is just to let you know that I finally found this nice plasmoid for KDE that notifies about IMAP and POP3 mail accounts. In case someone is interested, it's necessary to install the python bindings for KDE (name varies in every distro). I also had to install plasma-scriptengine-python and plasma-scriptengine-superkaramba on Debian Sid to make it work.

Regards.
