Can you clarify your requirements a bit more?

How are user's subscribed (in bulk?, self-subscribed?)
Where are the lists located (your mail client? your mail server?)
Do users have user-preferences (HTML vs. plain text?)
How are bounces handled? Spam prevention?

It sounds like you just want to manages lists of lists...

Hello,

You're correct that I am looking for something that does basic list management, but with a focus on email addresses. It doesn't need the features you mentioned.

I could put together a whole bunch of Mysql scripts, but why should I waste my time and reinvent the wheel if I don't need to?

Thanks,
Murdock

email list management

Hello Everybody,

I am looking for an application that can manage email lists. It needs to do simple list management such as removing duplicates, comparing with other lists, etc.

I am not looking for a system like Mailman, that incorporates a whole slew of mailing features, but rather just a simple database system geared toward email lists.

Thanks,
Murdock

Sorry, I think you're going to have to be more specific. What is "basic list management" ?

An email address is just a string of characters - nothing special really.

You haven't addressed the questions regarding where these addresses reside, and how they are to be used. Are they in your mail client (MUA)? Are they on a server somewhere? Are they used by a mail server?

Maybe you can clarify by explaining what you intend to do with these addresses, how you collect them, and how you put them to use.

Hello Mr. C,

Thanks for your time.

I have a very simple setup. I need a system where I can import these lists into a database, compare the lists, and do basic list management. You are correct when you mention that an email address is a basic string of text, so theoretically any database management system would work. And as I said, I could write a whole bunch of mysql/perl/bash scripts, but it would seem to be a waste of time if one already is out there.

Naturally, if there is one that has unique functionality for email addresses, such as filtering by domain, etc. that would be better.

There a many of these types of applications for windows, so I was wondering if there was a Linux equivalent.

Thanks,
Murdock

A couple of very small perl or awk scripts will handle this just fine. No need to involve any database. Unix/Linux are outstanding at text file manipulation. I certainly hope these are not SPAM lists.

Hello,

So I guess writing scripts is the best way to go.

Thanks,
Murdock
