email client for Linux

My problem might be trivial, but here it is:

I need to have a good email client for my Linux system. Currently I am using Thunderbird, which is nice but has few fall backs. What do I want from the client?

1. I want to write messages with courier font without automatic line wrapping. I do not want to send HTML format since many receivers are very anal with this and will complain.

2. When replying to other peoples messages, I want to quote their text below my answer. I do not want the client to add line breaks to the previous texts.

3. I want to be able to add comments between quotes. Quote prefix system should not mess things up.

4. I need solid LDAP support. When I write first/last name to the To: field, I want the client to suggest me all the matching names.

5. Standard mail format. I am in corporate environment. 90% use Outlook, 7% use Thunderbird/Mozilla, few Syplheeds, few Pines, few some other pre-1980 email readers

6. If needed, I want to be able to add bold, italic, coloring, pictures etc. into my message. I guess this is some sort of rich text format?

MS Outlook has been the best so far. But I need to use my Linux box! So what should I do? I've tried few email clients, and all of them have something nice. But always something else is missing, and that something else is usually what I end up needing. Thunderbird is fast and LDAP seems to "work" OK'ish but it tends to screw with line wrapping. Also the options with it are to send HTML or wrapped plain text format. And neither one of them usually end up what I was hoping for.

So any suggestions? If someone know neat tricks how to configure Thunderbird, that would be nice too. Note that I have spent numerous hours clicking different options and check boxes

Thunderbird is a very good email client. Most of the things you talk about are just settings that you can change. Other email clients like Evolution, etc. won't be any "better" in that respect. More behavior can be added by extensions and plugins from the addons.mozilla.org site. I use Thunderbird 1.0.7, so the things I point to below might be slightly different on differenet versions.

to turn off HTML, under the account settings -> composition & addressing -> uncheck "compose messages in HTML format"

under the account settings -> composition & addressing -> automatically quote the original message when replying -> start my reply above the quote

I have no problem adding comments between quotes; what's the problem?

Thunderbird does that; under the account settings -> composition & addressing -> when looking up addresses -> use a different LDAP server, then add and choose a server of your choosing

I don't know what you mean by standard mail format

this is HTML, which you wanted to turn off earlier
