email client as good as the bat! for redhat 9 linux
 

i have looked at evolution, syphleed, and mulberry email clients.

basically i need to know what users that were used to using the bat! email client used when they went to linux?

mulberry and syphleed come close. although i may have to just wait until ritlabs make a linux version of the bat! email client.

i have been googling for similar email clients but just haven't found one yet.

Balsa is fairly close to the bat, what features exactly were you looking for? I can't imagine sylpheed not meeting anyone's needs for features from the bat.

i guess there are too many things i am used to in the bat! which is why i was hoping for anyone that was an experienced user of the bat! could relate to what i mean.

but basically extensive filtering and the use of external file for the email client to access email addresses to filter. also none of these clients seem to allow me to display several different accounts with their own trash inbox outbox etc... and allow me to to set different parameters for each account on when it auto checks for email etc...

the bat! is quite an extensive email client with many useful features such as the ability to quickly remove/filter out specific email leaving only the desired email for searching. it has quite a good searching abilitiues also.

but nothing for linux that i have seen yet has something like this. but i am hoping there is something out there i haven't found yet. paying for it is not an issue either as i paid for the bat!.

I use the bat on my one and only winbox......I was pretty certain that sylpheed had seperate inbox/outbox/trash files per user, and allowed you to edit mail downloading preferences on a per account basis. I could be wrong, as I just use mozilla mail or mutt. If you still have it installed have a recheck on it. If not, I'm sorry but i'm outta ideas.

maybe i haven't spent enough time on sylpheed, i will spend more time on it and see.

i do like the look and feel of syphleed.

i currently cannot find anyhwere how to apply a filter rule that will look at an external .txt file that will contain all the emails to filter.

and there doesn't seem to an ability to force a new filter rule to all existing email.

these two are imortant to me so far.

heh - I didn't know the bat could do that - beyond my email capabilities.

I think *THINK* if you create a new rule you can then right click on its entry and filter existing mail using it.....

i guess my reasons for the importance of good filtering and search options is i currently recieve on average approx 150,000 emails per year. currently my email is at over 300 meg and approx 50,000 emails. i usually start filtering/archiving when it reaches 80,000.

i think i can export all my current email into a unix format and import it into syphleed, but i need good working filters in place to sort everything out when i import them.

there are still features in the bat! email client i don't even know about yet because there is so much to it. so we each use certain email functions for each our own reasons.

for me email is my number one used program and the most important.

wow! thats a buttload of mail.....I'd never get round to reading it all :) Good luck getting something sorted out, sounds like you really need it!
