email client

hi,
i am new linux user. can some one tell me is there any good

Evolution is popular and does both Mail and Calendaring and other tasks.

Thunderbird is also a popular email client and with the "Lightning" extension it also provides calendaring.

I've been using Thunderbird with the Lightning calendar plug-in. Works great on my Ubuntu laptop. You can download Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ and check for plug-ins at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/. Installing plug-ins for Thunderbird couldn't be any easier, too. Also, depending on the distribution of Linux that you're running, Thunderbird may in the repository making it very easy to install.

Hope this helps.

Kontact is also a good outlook like client that is part of kde.

if you are using gnome then thunderbird is probably better, if you are using kde then kontact

agreed. if you're running KDE, kmail and kontact is the way to go.

Why would anybody want an Outlook like program? Does anybody know of something that is user friendly instead?

There are lots of "user friendly" email clients for Linux. One of my personal favorites is Claws-Mail. Also, a great text-based MIME mail client is Mutt. There's also Balsa.

oultlook like in that it has a contact list, a calender, todo lists etc.

but twice as usefull and 5 times more stable than outlook!

i also assumes that as the OP is new to linux xe dousent want to have to use the terminal just to check email.
mabie that method is fastest for someone used to the quirks of bash but not for a total newbie
