emacs color-syntax highlighting with perl


i'm using emacs 21.2 to edit perl scripts and some perl functions and operators, such as open, aren't recognized by emacs' color-syntax highlighting. yes, emacs is in perl mode. how can i fix this?

did you try cperl-mode if you did try perl-mode
