Emacs as mail client?

I'm trying to use Emacs as a mail client but I don't know a good way to get it going.

Lemme tell first what kind of setup I'm after.

I use my gmail account for mails. Because I use my laptop I want to be able to browse my mails offline. Currently I use offlineimap to sync my gmail mails to my local computer. I store my emails to ~/Mail/ in several different folders like INBOX, XMonad, OpenBSD-misc etc. I have a box for each for my mailing lists.

Currently I use mutt to read these mails and then send the mails out with msmtp and with my gmail account.

As there are a lot of mail programs to emacs, is there anyone that stands out above others that I should use?
I see the rmail uses its own rmailbox syntax to store its mail so its pretty much out of the picture but what about the rest?

I want the mail client to read the ~/Mail and its subdirectories and to send the mails with the mstmtp (later with sendmail).

I still haven't been able to get all those directories to work on emacs.
