ELF64 Python problems in Suse 10.1

I'm running x86_64 openSuse 10.1, and had installed Python 2.4.2 via YaST2. Since compiling and installing Python 2.4.4, however, I've had problems with Python's (math?) module.

ImportError: /usr/local/lib/python2.4/lib-dynload/ wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
I've tried doing several things to eliminate this error, but none of them work. Can anyone explain this and what I need to do to fix it? (in Linux Novice language, please, since that's what I am! ) If there is a way to fix it (uninstall Python and reinstall with YaST2, etc) that doesn't require the internet, I would prefer that method since the computer I'm having this problem on isn't connected to the internet.

(P.S. I doubt this affects anything, but the reason I need this to work is that I use Blender quite a bit, and without python functioning properly, a lot of its scripts won't work. I've also posted on a Blender forum looking for help, but the advice I received seemed to be geared more towards Blender and not fixing Python in general.)
