editing modles.conf

im trying to install the alsa drivers on my computer and part of this requires the editing of modules.conf. i cant do this because it seems that i dont have write permission. im in kde and it doesnt seem like there is any way for me to log in as root. how can i modify this file?

thanks

First question: do you have root priviledge? If so, second question: Do you have Mandrake set up to automatically boot to the user's login, bypassing any opportunity to log in as root? If so, you will have to use the KDE control center to change that configuration to allow you to log in as root.
Or, if you are familiar with vi or vim, you can su to root, then use vi to edit the modules.conf.

first, it's not modles.conf but modules.conf
what you computer meat by "permission" is you need to be root or the system administrator in order to complete your task.
so you want to do is login as root and try install alsa as before
