Editing Menu in Gnome

I have recently switched to the gnome gui and I cannot figure out how I can edit the application menu. It told me to use the file manager nautilus, but I don't know where the directory is that the application menu is located at. Could anybody help me out?

would you believe that there IS no menu editor? sad but true. AFAIK they migrated to a standard menuing configuration from their own custom one, and forgot to make it editable... There are backend xml config files somewhere though, not sure quite where though. The latest version of gnome, 2.12, does have one though, and is really worth the upgrade.
