Question Edited a text using CAT,

Edited a text using CAT. Now, since I am a complete newb, can anyone remind me how the hell do I save the change? My "teacher" is offline and I can't for the life of me, figure out how to do it...

Welcome to LQ.

You can't edit text with cat. It only conCATinates files and writes them to stdout. Perhaps you mean vi, pico or emacs?

I have managed to find the txt editor in my distro. Thought CAT could do it by saving the text with the same filename once edited, but I finally managed to get help thrue IRC, of all places...

I'm running a "router on a floppy" called Freesco, and VI isn't part of it, unfortunately. The editor contained launched with the "edit" command...

I felt a little stupid not trying it, having known the old DOS days, but didn"t think anyone coding for the linux kernel would ever use that as a command, because it sounds "DOS-ish"...

Thanks for replying though, specially considering the fact that I misplaced my post, when it should've gone under the "newbie" segment.
