Edit PDFs

There are a number of ways to create PDFs (my favorite is scribus). However what do I do when I'm given a PDF and need to make changes to it without having access to the document in any other format?

If it's just a form you have to fill out or something you need to mark up, there are only two ways I know of and neither is "elegant" so to speak.

Xfig will open and modify them, and there is also a program called flpsed.

Google these for more info.

PDF is essentially an image of the document... Most people who create .pdf files are not intending the recipient to modify the file... This is an ongoing debate in the CAD and other industries... bottom line... if you can't get the source file for modification then you where not intended to be able to modify it in the first place...
