Eclipse, SVN and JavaHL on Fedora Core 6

OS: Fedora Core 6, Kernel 2.6.20-1.2962

Subversion do not follow symbolic links, which is great when you want your project to include none-versioned data (e.g. user generated files). The symbolic links themselves are versioned but not the content they point to.

I just installed Eclipse with the SVN plugin (Subclipse). But I was dissapointed to see that subclipse marks the none-versioned data in my symbolic links for addition. I would expect subclipse to honor the way SVN handles this. So I subscribed to the subclipse maillinglist to get som answers. They recommended to use JavaHL as the SVN interface instead of SVNKit.

Since JavaHL is already installed, I thought this would just be a matter of changing the settings. I opened the preferences window but found that the JavaHL option has been grayed out. I can't select it. Again I turned to the subclipse maillinglist, and they told me that this is not part of the original code. They have nothing in there to disable this setting.

So it looks like this is a modification made to the Fedora package. Can anyone tell me why this has been done, and if there is any solution to it.

Well, as so often with Fedora, it may be more interesting to get the "real thing" instead of the Fedora-branded version. Fedora comes with a Tomcat but I usually don't care to install it considering they run far behind what is currently available. I also intalled the original Eclipse on FC6 - all I had to do was unzip it and add an item to my menu (which is optional, of course).
