I have a RedHat 8.0 box which I use only as a Samba server. The data is on a reiserfs partitionn. Works great, but I'm getting a bit tired of the RH demo account recurring serveys, and I really don't want to start anything that's subscription.

Are there other distributions which will provide a stable platform for Samba and that would be an easy upgrade from RH8? I know a little about linux, but would probably be considered more "dangerous" that "accomplisted". I'd prefer not to have to reformat and can't afford to lose any data. I don't mind paying for a distribution as long as it's a one time cost.

if you have room to backup your entire installation, do
so, and you can play with upgrading to different flavors
of linux to try them out. then restore your old whenever
it turns out badly. check out www.linuxiso.org
