e17 configuration
Hello all, I just compiled Enlightenment DR17 on CentOS 4.1. I am using it right now, and it is really nice to use, has lots of eye candy and is quick. However, there are some nagging issues.
It seems that Enlightenment does not use standard .desktop files to populate its menus. It instead uses its own binary format, and all of the menu items are wrong. For instance, the OpenOffice link points to OOo 1 and I have OOo2 installed. I cannot find a utility to edit the menus. Also, there is no *launch application* dialog. So I have to open an xterm, and then minimize it after launching an app.
I also cannot find utilities to change the background and other basic things like this.
Does anyone know of a really good guide to enlightenment or know how to do these sorts of things? Thx!

Entangle is the E17 app to edit your menus and iconbar and engage launchers. It doesn't creat and EAP files for you though, there is an editor for the format in the e_utils package. just check it out from their CVS and compile that, it's there somewhere.
And for the run dialog, the command is Exige. I'm not sure if it's part of the base distrobution or e_utils, but at any rate, that's what you're looking for A good guide to enlightenment is get-e.org

I can't find entangle for e17 anywhere on the web. Keeping all of the downloads in a single, coherant place would be a good idea. Or else providing links is a good idea.
Anyways, I have googled and unless I'm blind (more than likely the problem ) I cannot find a download location for Entangle. e_utils will not compile from cvs right now. There is a problem with the Makefile.in.

I managed to find heaps of references on my first search... It seems it's part of the e_utils package, so you'll just need to wait until you can make that compile. If it's a problem in the Makefile, it probably wouldn't be too hard to fix on your own. They're just bash scripts.

Lol, my thoughts exactly. I think I'll just wait a few days and see if the problem is fixed in CVS. I will also let the maintainers know later.
