dvdrip transcode problem

i'm trying to do a backup of my copy of alien with dvdrip, but when i try to rip it it says:

WARNING: It seems that transcode ripping stopped short.
The movie has 2825 frames, but only 1552 were ripped. This is most likely a problem with your
transcode/libdvdread insatllation, resp. a problem with
this specific DVD

anyone had the same problem and solved it?

What distro you using, and how did you install transcode? Transcode and all the programs that are used with it just seem to be those type of programs that need to be compiled from source (along with your kernel). I'd try upgrading to needed stable sources for transcode mjpegtools ffmpeg etc and try that.
