hi
I tried installing acid rip but I am still having problems
when I click RELOAD , I get the error message
AcidRip message - Loading DVD... please wait
AcidRip message - lsdvd not found
I installed acidrip using the howto on the acid rip page, and installed lsdvd + everything else listed on the page
The only problem I can think of is my dvdrom drive is listed as a cdrom drive
eg. is mounted by fstab at /mnt/cdrom
this is how it was setup when I first installed fedora core1
The device still plays dvd's though no problems.
Does this need to be reinstalled as a dvd device?
This is now two programs (acidrip & dvdrip) that can't read the dvd device.

Thanks for the replys guys
If I type lsdvd I get :
$ lsdvd
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access
libdvdread: Could not open device with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
Can't open disc /dev/dvd!
as you said, theres probably a problem with my symlin kto /dev/dvd ..
As I am a newbe to linux, I have know idea how to fix this. I think my computer thinks the drive is just a normal
cd rom drive, not a dvd ?? (or something)
make sure you have a symlink from the ide device to /dev/dvd:
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd
assuming the base ide entry is hdc (when you boot run "dmesg" and in the early output you shout get a list of all ide devices.
if this device link DOES already exist and to the best of your knowledge is correct, then reread that dmesg output, maybe you'll find an error. can you mount a data or video dvd?

you little ripper
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd did the trick
now I can get acid rip to read the disk!!
When I have more time, I will sit down and learn how to actually use the program...
This is what I love about linux..
If you have a problem, there is always someone out there that is willing to help you for the greater good of the operating system!!.
