This would add a chapter mark at 5, 10, and 15 minutes. However, I'd like to automatically create chapters every 5 minutes to the end of the movie. I could not find this option anywhere in the documentation for dvdauthor. Is this possible?
AFAIK, dvd author doesn't do anything automatically. You could write and run a separate script for it yourself that would go into your .xml file, find each appropriate line, and insert the numbers for you, but that may be more trouble than it's worth.
What I would do (and have done) instead is simply create a "master file" version of the line, with the 5m intervals already setup, that can be copy&pasted into the file easily. dvdauthor seems to ignore any numbers greater than the video length, so you just have to be sure you have enough entries to cover any video you would normally make.
Thanks! Your tip about dvdauthor ignoring numbers greater than the video length is a great help. I actually have written a script that automates the ripping, processing, and burning of DVDs (ties together vobcopy, transcode, dvdauthor, etc.), so I can easily add the chapters switch to the part of my scrpt that generates the .xml file for dvdauthor.
