DVD wont mon't drive stays lit "no media present"
Hi Guys!
I have Fedora Core 3 installed on an older inspiron laptop. Initially I could mount a DVD, but couldn't play it and couldn't mount audio CDs. Then I did a yum update on everything and was able to play everything but DVDs. I installed libdvdcss, libdvdread, libdvdplay, etc.; but it still won't work. When I put a dvd in the drive spins up, but stays lit forever. If you try to mount it or play it then, you get a no media present type error. I have been trying to play them with Totem, but am thinking its a bigger problem than totem since I can't even mount 'em. I would appreciate any help!! Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it happens as root to. I've tried the automount and 'mount /media/cdrom ' from the command line.

/media/cdrom is just a link to actual device.
Try mounting /dev/"your device" after setting
$chmod 666 /dev/"your device"

Sounds Like a physical drive or disc problem. Have you cleaned the drives recently? I have seen DVD drive fail to read DVDs as they get older with no problem reading CDs.

Are you using udev or devfs? What programs are you using to read/write?
To watch a DVD movie, you don't need to mount it. If it's a data disk, you do.
