i'm using dvd::rip. very good ripper, imo. acid_kewpie has one out also called acid rip. there's documentation on dvd::rip on the webpage and well if you want to go with acidrip, acid_kewpie does mod these boards.
actually there's a nice howto also on the acidrip site.

http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/
http://acidrip.thirtythreeandathird.net/

both require the gtk-perl, libdvdread, and most likely libdvdcss packages installed.

acidrip requires addtionally mplayer and lsdvd.
dvdrip also requires either xine or mplayer and other optional packages if you want to create vcd, svcd's from your ripping project, or facilitate ripping and encoding over a network.

for me on installing dvd::rip, there was a bug in the installer where I had to copy the perl video library manually to the right perl version directory. i don't know if that's been fixed or not or whether it was system specific to me. but if you do successfully install dvd::rip and it won't run, then most likely that's the problem.
