DVD Region woes

I'm able to play DVD's just fine. Xine works out of the box for me in Slack, after I've installed libdvdcss.

My problem, however, is that according to Xine's documentation, it is region-restricted. I've got a friend who's going to be spending some time in Bolivia, and wants to be able to play rented DVD's with the laptop she's bringing. She's also planning on bringing a few DVD's from home, too, which presents a problem. Bolivia is Region 4, and Canada is Region 1. The firmware on the DVD drive claims to restrict you to a maximum of 5 changes.

Never did agree with region coding, and here's a perfect reason why. Short of buying a 2nd DVD player, I need a solution. What I need is a region-free DVD software. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I use mplayer...and my DVD's are from regions 2,3 and 4. I didn't realise xine had any restrictions on region - are you sure it does? In any case, use mplayer and you won't have any restrictions.
