whats happening when u try to get mplayer to work? its 1 of the best peices of software ever, not just linux software

shadowhunter 01-03-2004 12:43 PM

Big distro's (like SuSe) don't compile in Xvid and maybe also dvd-support it their rpm's, try to built mplayer from source. You will get your dvd's working.
Oh, you must also have libdvdcss or something like it.

hope I helped you.

Geert.

u need to download skins and put them in the skin dir first!
compile it from source, dont use the rpms - i think its easier to do it like that

xine/totem works beautifully on suse 9

grab http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br...twork.i386.rpm

Here...

http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel....0pre3.tar.bz2

unzip the file with bunzip2 (ie: bunzip2 MPlayer-1.0pre3.tar.bz2)
uncompress the tar file (ie: tar -xf MPlayer-1.0pre3.tar.bz2)

Then as root type

./configure (wait until finished)
make (wait until finished)
make install (done)

then at a command line type "mplayer dvd://1" and you're movie will start playing

good luck
