DVD Players not working
I am using a Toshiba Tecra 8000 PII 366 with DVD drive laptop, running RH9, and up2date says all packages are up to date. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get any DVD player software to work for me. They all do the same thing - as soon as I try to play a file (on dvd), they close. No error messages, nothing.
I have tried compiling xine and mplayer myself. Nothing. Ended up trashing my audio drivers so bad I couldn't fix them. I'm using Alsa, as RH9 doesn't support my sound card. I ended up wiping the system with a fresh install, and reinstalling Alsa. After that, I tried using APT with Synaptic. Then I used Synaptic/apt to install xine. It looked promising - I saw, for a brief moment, the FBI warning screen of the DVD I was trying to play. Then, as before, poof! Nothing. Not a pixel left of the window. No error. Nothing. I have tried Ogle, Mplayer, and VLC, all with the same results - as soon as I hit play, POOF! Does anyone have any suggestions for a Linux noob? Thanks! Rich :newbie:  |
By the way - I did create a link to the dvd drive, and the drive is accessed prior to the programs shutting down.
