dvd player very unsmoothly on ubuntu linux
 

I have a slight problem, my DVDs are playing unsmoothly. I have the latest version of ubuntu linux. I'm not sure what to do.

Ive tried many different players. The smoothest one which actually played perfectly was totem movie player but theres a strange problem with totem. It can play the dvd but it doesnt recognise the dvd. It shows that I'm playing CDrom01, not the name of the DVD. And if i do say play dvd it says i have to download and install plugins and i have already done that through the synaptic package manager.

When i play on totem movie player i cant skip chapters or view the menu because as i told u it doesnt recognise it as a dvd. Ive tried many dvds and the same problem occurs.

Normal videos can play alright like Divx movies play fine but i dont know why dvds dont want to.

On windows dvds play fine.

What is your hardware? System specifications please.

Can you try playing with mplayer?
