When I play dvd from my hdd no problem, but if I play from a dvd-r, it is very poor performance. I tried checking the dma status of the drive
says its UDMA 2
Try different brands of DVD-R discs or do a firmware upgrade. Reading from DVD-R will be half as slow as the original DVD. If the program that you are using has a a way to change the cache. Increase its value until it does not skip. You can try use the ide-scsi module.
