from what i saw they used wine which would defeat the purpose of me asking for linux software and i dont reelly want to rip it to the hard drive first, i just want to copy
lxdvdrip is a wine-free alternative, but it requires ripping to your hard drive. Like I said in the other post, as far as I know there is no program in linux equal to dvdshrink that will allow you to rip a burnable iso image directly froma dvd. Although, I would be happy to hear about it if anyone else knows of one.
ok heres another question i have not the same topic exactly but since you guys are here talking abotu ripping i thought id ask. i ripped soem video clips with acidrip nto avi files and i tried to make a vcd with them but my burning sftware says format unsupported, this happens also when i try to encode it with another program first. any idea why?
The video CD format requires mpeg1 encoded video. In addition, it requires a specific image size and bitrate to be compliant. Mencoder (what acidrip uses) creates mpeg4 (divx) encoded video. Divx can have variable bit rate. You can only play mpeg4 encoded video on a divx capable player. Some divx capable dvd players are available at best buy, or other online retailers. If you want to convert your divx to VCD, I recommend reading through the guides at www.videohelp.com. Most instructions are for windows, but some linux information is there. You should also take a look at:
Have fun! VCD quality is pretty low. If you have the hard drive space and a DVD burner, the best way to create a backup disc that is playable is to use dvdshrink under wine with dvdbackup.
i think you are missing what i am saying. i have an avi file iw ant to put on vcd. when i try to encode it to vcd capable format it says unrecognized format. ive not quite a bit of vcd burning and encoding int he past, im aware of the quality. ive gone through some of the tutorials at videohelp.com
