DVD and Music Players

The two programs that I miss most in Linux are Winamp and WinDVD 6. I have tried out many linux applications that I thought would suffice, but I have found nothing that provides the features I really value in these apps.

I winamp, I really enjoy the media library and shade mode. In WinDVD, the feature to play DVDs from a hard drive folder that contains the data files (unencrypted) is very important.

Can anyone suggest suitable replacements for me to use on my newly installed OS? (SuSE Linux 9.2 Pro)

Well, mplayer just striaght rocks for playing pretty much any type of video you can throw at it(as long as you install the codecs). XMMS is probably the most widely used music player but I don't know if it will have all the features you are looking for. Check them out. I think both of them can be yast'ed in.

Nope, XMMS does not have a media library, which means you have to load MP3s from file names, not file tags.

I have not yet had time to try MPlayer.

You can use MPlayer and Xine for virtually any types of multimedia. As for something with a library try amarok (my personal favorite), juk or rhythmbox.
