During boot up, how do I determine video chip-set type?

Hello,

In the past when I was dealing with kernel-2.6.11.1, I was able to determine the video chip-set that a system was using by examining the contents of the /proc/pci file.

Now I am working with kernel-2.6.20.1. The file /proc/pci is not found (not created?).

I need to determine the video chip-set so that I can start X11 (with the appropriate xorg.conf file for the chip-set) when booting from a CD-ROM disk.

I am using busybox-1.01 which does not offer "lspci".

Any ideas as to what I can do to replace the following:

PHP Code:
        # 501 hardware

if [ `cat /proc/pci | grep "Chips and Technologies" -c` = ]

then

/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit /bin/UpdateUI $CDVERSION $PARAM -- /usr/X11R6/bin/-config /etc/X11/chips/xorg.conf

exit

fi

# 503 hardware

if [ `cat /proc/pci | grep ATI -c` = ]

then

/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit /bin/UpdateUI $CDVERSION $PARAM -- /usr/X11R6/bin/-config /etc/X11/ati/xorg.conf

exit

fi

# 505 hardware

if [ `cat /proc/pci | grep 82852/855GM -c` = ]

then

/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit /bin/UpdateUI $CDVERSION $PARAM -- /usr/X11R6/bin/-config /etc/X11/intel/xorg.conf

exit

fi
...

Take a look at /proc/bus/pci/devices.

Reddazz, thank you for taking the time to answer my query. I found an easier way to determine the video chip-set; I am using /usr/X11R6/bin/scanpci. Thus in the script I posted earlier, I substituted the "cat /proc/pci" with a call to "scanpci".
