Dumb terminal emulator

I'm looking for a program to emulate a dumb terminal, say to configure a router, available for Linux. I have a feeling there's already one installed as a basic system tool, but maybe not. I'd prefer a GUI for the options (such as how many bits in a word) but command line is fine if it's not available. Thanks!

Here are a couple of communication applications.
minicom - command line (typically already installed)
cutecom - GUI communication program (no experience using it)

For more apps check out freshmeat and sourceforge.
