Dumb question

I know I should already know the answer to this, but I admit I don't.

Is there a utility for Linux that allows you to see your system performance? Like, for example... I have an ASUS MB, and in my XP partition I can run the ASUS utility and see the temps of my MB, CPU, so on and so forth. Does Linux (or ASUS) have a version for us to use?

Also, is there an application that you can install / run that will allow you to see if your system is running *smoothly* or not (like to check and see how much of your resources are being used during running things like Firefox, so on)?

Thanks.

Parting shot. There is no such thing as a dumb question! There are dumb answers to questions. There are questions poorly thought out and asked. But, if you don't ask, you won't learn. So, in future, please don't preface your question with the remark "dumb question". You will get fewer views of your question, and fewer answers. Just ask the question so that viewers know the nature of the question, and can determine if they have knowledge pertinent to that question. You will get much better response that way.
