Dual Screen - Ubuntu - Nvidia

Hello

I have ubuntu 6.06 installed, I also have an NVIDIA Graphics Card with Video out

What I would like to do is to be able to dual/screen the monitor with my TV, but for the output to only come from the second desktop/window (Sorry noob term).

So I would have my main desktop where I could have Amarok playing, on the second desktop would be the Visulization playing at full screen and the second desktop would be also outputed to the TV

I have ready some instructions on how to get the NVIDIA card to output the TV but none sofar on how to do it for a specific Desktop.

Any ideas?

I believe you'd have to involve xinerama to accomplish this. I have personally never tested it, and I'm not too sure if Xinerama and the Nvidia drivers play nice together. Hopefully though, xinerama will point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

Cool

Oooh, quick second thought:

You could use x,y offsets possibly. The ModeLines entry in your xorg.conf allows x and y offsets. As mentioned above, I've never given it a run, but that might be what you need.

Good luck!

I have managed to get TV out now using TwinView and Xinerama

Both have potential

What I would like to do though is to have multiple desktops but to only clone Desktop 2

This way if the second monitor/tv is another room I can make changes to it from my PC with out having to get up and view it

Xinerama almost worked cause it allowed me to extend the desktop, but I wasnt able to see the other side of the desktop as the TV is another room

Any ideas on how to clone a second desktop?
